Happy Halloween and Happy November!

I’ve been quiet around here lately because I started a full time job. It’s been three weeks, and while I wish I could have kept up with my weekly Sunday blog post, I just wasn’t able to. I might be able to work my way back into it eventually, but when time gets scarce, the writing that has to come first is my fiction writing. I guess it’s a good thing that my goal for this blog has always been for it to be a personal blog.

The thing that I have been keeping up on is writing Fate of Dragons. I’m smack in the middle of the final action scenes, and while I’d like to give some kind of prediction about when I’ll be done, I’ve learned that, when faced with a full time job and a toddler taking up much of my schedule, giving myself artificial deadlines just doesn’t work. I often wish it was just a matter of making myself do it, no matter what it takes, but I have never been a person who did well by sacrificing sleep.

What is working for me is setting a goal of writing every day, even if it’s only 15 minutes. I wake up at 5am so I can get up before Astrid. Sometimes she sleeps until 6:30, other times she wakes up at 5:45. Sometimes she wakes up so much in the middle of the night that I have to let myself sleep until 6. Then I just have to remind myself that I can always get back into the schedule the next day.

We had a great Halloween. Astrid didn’t know what was going on, and she didn’t like wearing her costume at first, but I think she had fun.
